Cedar forest and moss garden

The house
The Forest House is a restored machiya at the cedar line — tatami, shoji, hinoki wood and paper light. Its rooms follow the traditional sequence from street to garden, ending in an engawa veranda that faces the forest and nothing else.
The bath is the house's heart: a deep hinoki tub filled nightly at 41°C, with the garden lit by a single stone lantern beyond the glass. A private path leads directly from the garden gate into the cedar forest.
- Private hinoki soaking bath, drawn nightly
- Engawa veranda facing the forest
- Direct private path into the cedars
- Tea room with sunken hearth
- Moss garden with stone lantern
